Matilda Ledger Might Have Hit A SpeedbumpCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Sep 29th, 2008Coming directly on the heels of the announcement that Heath Ledger's daughter Matilda would be inheriting his entire estate, comes word that the insurance company isn't paying up. ReliaStar, the company that wrote Heath's $10 million life insuranc...e policy six months before his death, has reportedly deemed his death "suspicious". In the case of "suspicious" death (re: suicide), the policy is rendered null and void. Insurance companies are cagey-ass. They launched an investigation into the death, despite the New York City Medical Examiner's office ruling it as "accidental." |

MARY KATE OLSEN WILL NOT BE FORCED TO GIVE EVIDENCE OVER HEATH LEDGER'S DEATHCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Aug 8th, 2008Mary-Kate Olsen has done her best to disassociate herself from any scintilla of blame or knowledge about the death of Heath Ledger. In fact she has stayed on the fringes of the investigation, Gollum-like, hoping the whole precious thing would blow ov...er and leave her alone. And it seems that by hook or by crook (or by the millions she has in the bank) she has succeeded, as the case has been closed. |

Heath Ledger Is On The Bright Side Of ThingsCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Aug 7th, 2008The restaurant-bar the late Heath Ledger wanted to open in New York’s Brooklyn is nearly complete. “Heath was very, very into it,” Jud Mongell, Heath’s longtime pal and business partner, tells Life & Style. “He drew the floor plans and t...hought of the name — BrightSide — because it’s on the bright side of McCarren Park.” The nautical-themed eatery, which is scheduled to open later this summer, will have personal touches from Heath. For instance, a chessboard will be engraved into one of the tables. “Heath was a big chess player,” notes Jud. “The whole idea was to make it a spot for us. We wanted to make it our own space to hang out.” |

Mary-Kate Wants ImmunityCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Aug 6th, 2008You might remember that Mary-Kate Olsen was the first person called after Heath Ledger’s unconscious body was discovered in his apartment in January of this year. Interestingly, Mary-Kate Olsen is also the only acquaintance of Heath’s refusing to... talk to federal investigators. According to The Daily Mail MK is demanding “immunity from prosecution” before she’ll give any details about his death to the feds. Investigators believe the powerful painkiller [on which Heath overdosed] may have been obtained illegally and are desperate to find out where it came from. They contacted Olsen’s lawyer asking for the star’s help, but he has reportedly not allowed her to talk unless she is given immunity from prosecution. Everyone else connected to Heath has been interviewed by federal investigators. Everyone except Mary-Kate, who has refused to speak. Jeez, guilty much? Of course, once the media got a hold of this little tidbit, Olsen’s attorney issued the following statement: “Despite tabloid speculation, Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger’s home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them. Ms. Olsen does not know the source of the drugs Mr. Ledger consumed. These descriptions are incomplete and inaccurate.” Perhaps when under federal review, her decision to send her bodyguard instead of paramedics might be construed as “monumentally stupid” and “the final nail in his coffin.” Not to mention the all the decency laws she’s broken over the years wearing clothing that asinine. I’m sure there’s a substantial fine and mandatory jail time for those glasses at least. |

Mary-Kate Comments On Heath Ledger’s DeathCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Aug 5th, 2008Mary-Kate Olsen claims she doesn’t know where Heath Ledger got the drugs that killed him, her attorney says in a statement. MK, 22, believes she has already provided investigators with enough “relevant information” but the New York Post has ...reported she is refusing to talk to federal investigators about Heath’s death until she is granted immunity from prosecution. Her lawyer Michael C. Miller said, “Despite tabloid speculation, Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger’s home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them. Regarding the Government’s investigation, at Ms. Olsen’s request, we have provided the Government with relevant information including facts in the chronology of events surrounding Mr. Ledger’s death and the fact that Ms. Olsen does not know the source of the drugs Mr. Ledger consumed. We don’t know the source of the information being quoted in the media regarding the Government’s inquiry, but these descriptions are incomplete and inaccurate.” |

JOHNNY DEPP LINED UP TO PLAY THE RIDDLER IN NEXT BATMAN FILMCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Aug 1st, 2008'The Dark Knight' has performed so well at the box office that producers are already working on casting the next instalment of the Batman story, once again to be directed by Christopher Nolan. In a frankly inspired piece of casting it is rumoured tha...t they will be approaching Johnny Depp to play the role of the Riddler and attempt to breathe life into a character hammed to death by Jim Carrey in the truly awful 'Batman Forever'. Johnny's a lovely man so hopefully he won't prepare for the role in the same way as Heath Ledger did for the Joker (by seemingly going a bit dotty then dying). If this comes off it might be the first time the audience is cheering for the Riddler to give Batman a truly historic hammering. |

Michelle Williams dating director Spike JonzeCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jul 26th, 2008Michelle Williams is dating director Spike Jonze. Spike is the director of the upcoming film Where the Wild Things Are and is currently getting his nuts kicked in for having the audacity to make a kid's movie devoid of fart jokes. But at least he get...s to have sex with someone who will constantly compare him to Heath Ledger. Wow, I really suck at cheering people up. Star reports: "Michelle kissed Spike with a closed mouth on the corner of his lips," says an eyewitness who saw the couple together the morning of July 2 leaving Spike's Manhattan apartment. "There was definitely a little bit of caressing going on. She was clutching his arm. The body language was very romantic." Okay, I'm willing to believe Michelle Williams is dating Spike Jonze. They're both weird; it works. But here's where Star lost me: "Michelle kissed Spike with a closed mouth on the corner of his lips." Who the hell talks like that? May I suggest a more believable dialog: "Tipping his top hat towards the lady, he offered his hand, and together they hailed a horseless carriage. Perhaps a promenade at the tavern would find this evening well. Afterward, sir and madam retired to their quarters for carnal pleasures punctuated with scones and haberdashery." It's almost like you're there! |

Chopped LiverCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jul 18th, 2008I haven't actually seen The Dark Knight yet (tomorrow). But, while I imagine that Heath Ledger's The Joker is everything everyone says it is -- the best performance in a movie of all time, ever, until the end of time -- and that he deserves all the p...osthumous praise we can heap upon the man's grave (R.I.P. Heath!), can I just say this: Christian Bale ain't exactly chopped liver, people. Bale is top five one of the best actors of this generation, and along with Nolan, he resurrected the Batman franchise. He'll go down as the best Batman ever, and given the limitations of his character and that suit, I suspect that Bale warrants, natch, deserves some mad fucking props. So, go see The Dark Knight this weekend. Fawn all over Heath Ledger, rave about the man's performance and what a shame it is that he died so young, but don't forget about Bale, y'all. He's the reason there's even a sequel to Nolan's reboot in the first place. |

Christian Bale’s Big NightCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jul 15th, 2008Christian Bale is flanked by Lauren Conrad (The Hills) and Blake Lively (Gossip Girl) at the premiere of The Dark Knight at AMC Loews Lincoln Center in New York City on Monday. Emilie Hirsch and Maggie Gyllenhaal was also on hand for the festiviti...es. (pictured inside) 75-year-old legend and co-star Michael Caine recently commented about his thoughts on who the best Batman actor of all-time, saying, “I think Christian is the best actor ever to play Batman. He’s also very lucky. He’s got the best writer and director ever for Batman, Christopher Nolan. That’s why I agreed to do it. I’d seen Memento and Insomnia so was a big fan of Christopher. Then I read Batman Begins and thought the script was brilliant. |

Christian Bale is Back as BatmanCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jul 14th, 2008Christian Bale sits down with The Today Show’s Matt Lauer to talk about the upcoming summer blockbuster, The Dark Knight, opening this Friday. Here’s a snippet of the interview: So much was made of Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker. It w...as such a dark role. In some way, perhaps, do you think in real life, it caused him to slip across some line of reality and may have had some role in his accidental death? Personally, I find it to be a complete lack of understanding of acting. I also find it very rude to try to create some kind of sound bite for such a tragedy. The man was a complex man, a good man, but you know what? I saw him having the best time playing The Joker. He was someone who completely immersed himself in his role. As do I. But in the end of the day, he was having a wonderful time doing it, He couldn’t have been happier doing it. |

Batman & The Joker Do Entertainment WeeklyCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jul 4th, 2008Director Christopher Nolan spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the late Heath Ledger, who plays The Joker in the upcoming superhero blockbuster, The Dark Knight. Here’s what he had to say: On Heath’s commitment to his character: ”The guy had... serious nuts. What I needed was someone who wouldn’t be afraid of the comparison with Jack Nicholson. And then I saw Heath’s incredible performance in Brokeback Mountain. Such a lack of vanity. This was an actor who wasn’t afraid to bury himself in his character — to a massive extent.” |
