Demi Lovato Don’t Forget ReviewCategory: Music Industry - Posted by: rapvirus on Sep 29th, 2008Every once in a while you have to bite your lip and admit that you were wrong. When I first heard about the fact that Camp Rock star Demi Lovato was putting out an album, I though for sure that it was going to be another bit of bland Disney Channel e...mptiness. I figured this review would be mostly negative. I was wrong. |

Nine Oh Two One BlowCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Sep 5th, 2008I actually had no plans whatsoever to either watch or review the new “90210,” since I was never a fan of the original, and therefore deemed myself unqualified for such an endeavor. (Although strangely enough, I couldn’t get enough of “Melrose... Place.”) But after how much coverage I’ve been giving it over on Webster’s, I figured it was at the very least my duty as a pop culture blogger to give it a shot. Plus, you know how I loves me a good trainwreck. And “90210” did not disappoint. Of course, by “did not disappoint,” I mean it did not disappoint me by not sucking ungodly amounts of ass. As predicted, this show is horrible. Everything: the acting, writing, casting; it’s all downright atrocious. Do you like expository dialogue? If so, then this is the show for you! Since either the writers were apparently too lazy to craft any kind of meaningful backstory, or else the numerous studio rewrites commanded it, almost everything we learn about the characters in the premiere comes by way of cloyingly heavy-handed expository conversations. And yet, it’s atrocious in a Lifetime movie or daytime soap way, so that despite the all-encompassing suckage, I was still able to sit and watch the entire two-hour premiere. But I’m not gonna lie; half a bottle of cabernet sauvignon probably didn’t hurt, either. |

Batman: The Dark Knight NY Magazine’s terrible review causes outrageCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jul 15th, 2008New York magazine film critic David Edelstein is public enemy number one after publishing the first negative review of the much-anticipated and lauded The Dark Knight. Batman fans and fellow critics are firing back, saying he just didn’t “get” ...the film. Edelstein gave the film a negative review due to violence and “morbid” factors that seem related to Ledger’s untimely death: The momentum doesn’t carry through, though. The Dark Knight is all fits and starts—fitfully suspenseful, fitfully scary, one jerky episode after another with jolts of brutality to keep you revved up. When Burton’s Batman came out, some prominent critics griped that the film was too violent for kids. Wait’ll they get a load of this. |

Vanessa Hudgen’s “Identified” — FIRST REVIEWCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on May 26th, 2008Entertainment Weekly has the first look at Vanessa Hudgens‘ sophomore release, Identified, out July 1. “[The album] definitely sophisticated,” Vanessa says. “But it’s also funky and fun–something that I would, like, actually listen to....” Here’s what EW had to say about three of the album’s tracks: “Sneakernight” — The thumping first single “is a fun song about hanging out with your girlfriends and wearing sneakers,” says Hudgens, who’s no stranger to stiletto-induced red-carpet cramps. “When I show the video, I was like, ‘I cannot believe I’m wearing sneakers for the first time in a music video!’ It was awesome.” “First Bad Habit” — Hudgens enlisted producer Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson, Pink) to pump synths into this sassy anthem “about when you like a hug so much but know he’s a complete a–hole.” Is said rapscallion like any particular man in her life? “It hasn’t happened to me, but a lot of my friends have gone through so much crap.” |

Review: CloverfieldCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jan 22nd, 2008The film begins as a video depicting a government document, like a black box that recalls wreckage in airplane or train accidents, supposedly confiscated into the hands of experts. "Cloverfield" is the labeled government name of the amateur documenta...ry. It's probably the supreme amateur documentary revealing the best footage of how it all went down . Now it's going to play back to the audience in an unabridged "Blair Witch Project" format. What we start with is the obligatory character introductions including a bunch of twenty-somethings bidding their friend Rob (Michael Stahl-David) a farewell party before he embarks to Japan for work occupation. Hud (T.J. Miller) is the best friend and dependable wisecrack assigned to videotape the party and record testimonials from friends at the Manhattan apartment soiree. We get the standard boy-girl gossip and learn that Rob is in love with Beth (Odette Yustman), the vulnerable svelte hourglass-shaped hottie, although she's in the arms of another guy. |

Ellen Page’s Future is Looking BrightCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jan 17th, 2008She nabbed a trophy at the National Board of Review Awards last night, and given all the success of her film “Juno,” Ellen Page’s career really seems to be taking off. The 20-year-old actress is set to star in a roller-derby film titled “W...hip It!” directed by none other than Drew Barrymore. And reportedly both ladies are looking forward to the project. |

Stars Show For National Board of Review AwardsCategory: Cinema & TV - Posted by: rapvirus on Jan 17th, 2008It’s a very precarious time in Hollywood these days. With the writers’ strike still marching on, celebrities are getting a little cabin fever, so to speak, with regard to awards shows. And with the Golden Globe cancellation this past weekend, H...ollywood’s elite are desperate for exposure. Last night, the National Board of Review held their awards ceremony, honoring greatness in Hollywood productions. And the A-list of celebrities in attendance was a welcome change from the recent writers’ strike drought. |
